A magical year of giving

In 2022, we were in the mood to do good, so we did just that and set a goal to support causes our team were passionate about. We successfully donated $45,000 to 40 organizations across the United States.

Beginning in 2020, our team began to brainstorm about ways we can make a bigger impact in our communities. As a company that is completely remote, our team members live all over the United States and each one of them have a passion to do good in their local communities. Our Giving Back Team was created to help us bring this idea to life.

The Giving Back Team’s mission is to engage with all Chi-Matic team members to understand what causes they are passionate about and support those causes through donations, sponsorships, volunteering, and company energy. Team members are surveyed for their top 3 categories for social good.

Our top choices for 2022 that became our year’s focus was:

• Animals & Pet Rescues
• Racial Justice and Civil Rights
• Homelessness, Poverty & Food Insecurity

Throughout the year we have donated directly to organizations, raised money for them by attending fundraising events, held trivia and holiday costume contests where winners chose an organization to support, and have had members of our team share their support of additional organizations they were passionate about.

As a company, we’re grateful for all the organizations we were able to make a meaningful contribution to this year. Each one has made a significant impact on our communities, and we are invested in the great work they do.

Our 2022 organizations include:

Nehemiah – Nehemiah seeks to lift black voices and experiences with a focus on education, restoration, community empowerment and economic development, they seek to interrupt cycles of poverty, racism, and discrimination.

Strang Steam Camp – Presented by Strang, Inc. and Urban League of Greater Madison, STEAM Camp raises awareness for educational pathways toward careers in Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Math. Middle school campers learn how to prepare for their future careers through interactive learning workshops with community organizations and local businesses. STEAM Camp is all-day and in-person.

Box of Balloons – Box of Balloons is a non-profit organization on a mission to make each birthday happy and every child celebrated. Every child deserves to feel special, be celebrated and have a memorable party.  Unfortunately, that is not possible for many families. In America 18% of children live below the poverty level. They believe that a birthday celebration can give families the joy and hope they may be missing.

Mid-South Food Bank – Mid-South Food Bank provides food to local agencies and food distribution sites. In the heart of Memphis, Tennessee, they pride themselves on being the leading food distributor in their region.

Chicago Coalition of the Homeless – Since 1980, the Chicago Coalition for the Homeless (CCH) has had a clear mission: “We organize and advocate to prevent and end homelessness, because we believe housing is a human right in a just society.”

World Central Kitchen – WCK is first to the frontlines, providing meals in response to humanitarian, climate, and community crises. They build resilient food systems with locally led solutions.

Atlanta Community Food Bank – Did you know that 1 in 9 Georgians is food insecure? Atlanta Community Food Bank is on a mission to end hunger. They work with nearly 700 community-based nonprofit food distribution partners, including food pantries, community kitchens, childcare centers & more.

Greater Boston Food Bank – The Greater Boston Food Bank works passionately to end hunger across Eastern Massachusetts by providing their neighbors in need the healthy food and resources they need to thrive.

Good Shepherd Center – The mission of Good Shepherd Center is to feed the hungry, shelter the homeless, and foster transition to housing.

Saint Louis Crisis Nursery – The Saint Louis Crisis Nursery provides a short-term, safe haven for 5,000 children a year, birth through age 12, whose families face an emergency caused by illness, homelessness, domestic violence, or overwhelming parental stress.

Project Angel Heart – Founded in 1991, Project Angel Heart prepares and delivers medically tailored meals to people living with severe illnesses. Each week, their professional chefs and registered dietitian prepare thousands of delicious meals, from scratch, and tailor them to meet the medical and dietary needs of those who are ill.

Care and Share Food Bank for Southern Colorado – Care and Share works to gather and sort food from multiple sources, distributing to their network of 291 partners in 31 counties across Southern Colorado. They make sure nutritious food gets in the hands of everyone who needs it—wherever they are.

Underdog Pet Rescue – Underdog Pet Rescue is an all-breed companion animal rescue based out of Dane County, Wisconsin. Their mission is to find permanent homes for animals in need, and to enrich lives by strengthening the connection between animals and people through community services and outreach.

Animal Haven – Animal Haven is a nonprofit animal rescue that finds homes for dogs and cats in crisis and provides behavior intervention when needed to improve quality of life and chances of adoption. Founded in 1967, they operate an animal shelter in downtown New York City.

Midwest Akita Rescue Society – Midwest Akita Rescue Society is dedicated to evaluating, rescuing, medically treating, rehabilitating, and re-homing abandoned, relinquished or otherwise homeless Akita dogs. They also participate in mentoring Akita owners and prospective owners, and work with schools in educating children on the proper, safe, and humane way to live and work with Akitas and pet animals in general.

Good Mews – Good Mews is one of the few virtually cage-free, no-kill cat shelters in the state of Georgia and the first in the metro Atlanta area. Since 1988, Good Mews has placed over 11,000 cats in permanent homes.

Seattle Humane – Founded in 1897, Seattle Humane proudly promotes the human-animal bond by saving and serving pets in need. We are one of the region’s leaders in animal adoption, education, and welfare.

Domino Service Dogs – Founded in 2013, Domino Service Dogs vision is to remove barriers to service dog ownership and training. Domino Service Dogs serves persons with disabilities, who reside in Colorado. DSD provides a 2-year program for people who are training their own service dog.

Best Friends – Best Friends Animal Society’s Strut Your Mutt is a walk and fundraiser held across the country, bringing entire communities together to save the lives of homeless pets.

Save a Pet – Illinois – Save-A-Pet offers rescued dogs and cats the greatest opportunity for a second chance. They provide a safe haven for abused, neglected, injured, lost, or animals that have escaped euthanasia.

Humane Society of Washington County – The Humane Society of Washington County exists to promote the welfare of companion and domestic animals through educational programs and initiatives that reduce pet overpopulation, endorse fostering, enrich adoptions, and encourage responsible pet guardianship.

V Foundation (Victory Over Cancer) – Founded by ESPN and legendary basketball coach Jim Valvano, the V Foundation funds game-changing research and all-star scientists to accelerate victory over cancer and save lives.

Good Sports – Good Sports drives equitable access in youth sports and physical activity, by supporting children in high-need communities to achieve their greatest potential, on the field and in life.

River Discovery – River Discovery offers outdoor adventures for cancer survivors that promote healing and strengthening of the mind, body, and spirit. Programs are created to inspire, empower, and heal survivors of all ages and with any diagnosis.

Keeping our Promise – Keeping our Promise provides comprehensive resettlement assistance to endangered wartime allies who served U.S. interests in conflict and war zones.

The Trevor Project – Their mission is to end suicide among lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer & questioning young people.

Autism Society – Autism Society creates connections, empowering everyone in the Autism community with the resources needed to live fully.

Pay Away the Layaway – Their mission is to inspire hope and spread kindness. They surprise unsuspecting families by paying off their layaway balances.

AFO – Founded in 1992, AFO, formerly Women Have Options, is an organization dedicated to helping Ohioans afford their reproductive choices.

Crescent Care – Located in New Orleans, Louisiana, Crescent Care’s mission is to strengthen their entire community through whole-person healthcare and education.

Homewood Izzak Walton Preserve – Lakes, woodlands, ancient sand dunes, native prairie, picnic grounds, and wetlands make up the 193 acres of the Homewood Izaak Walton Preserve. Located in Homewood, IL, the Preserve is run by community volunteers, and dedicated to service in conservation.

The Center – The San Diego LGBT Community Center enhances and sustains the health and well-being of the lesbian, gay, bisexual, queer, transgender, nonbinary, immigrant, and HIV communities to the betterment of the entire San Diego region.

Lucky Paws Midwest – Lucky Paws Midwest’s mission is to save them all. Their goal is to place all at risk animals into caring foster homes and eventually, loving permanent homes. They work with adopters in the vicinity of Western Wisconsin and the Twin Cities metro area.

Book Smiles – Book Smiles promotes literacy and the joy of reading by giving books to children throughout Philadelphia and New Jersey. They provide students and younger siblings with high-quality new or gently used books, laying the groundwork for academic success.

Hampden Charter School of Science – The mission of the HCSS is to provide a college preparatory-focused education to the youth of every race and ethnic group in Western Massachusetts in a safe, academically challenging, and caring educational environment.

Madison School District’s Child Nutrition Assistance – The Madison Public Schools Foundation works closely with MMSD to ensure that all schools are meeting the needs of our students. The Child Nutrition Assistance Fund helps district families that are struggling to pay their meal account balance.

PR x PR Hurricane Relief – PRxPR invests 100% of donations amongst the most critically affected communities. As a no-overhead fund, every dollar goes to work. Aid impacts short and long-term humanitarian needs focused on food/agriculture, clean water, and fuel/renewable energy initiatives.

Medicare Rights Center – The Medicare Rights Center is a national, nonprofit consumer service organization that works to ensure access to affordable health care for older adults and people with disabilities through counseling and advocacy, educational programs, and public policy initiatives.

MUSC Swing for a Cure – the 11th Annual Swing for a Cure Kick-Off Party and Golf Tournament supports sarcoma cancer research and patients at the Medical University of South Carolina Hollings Cancer Center.

WRBH Radio Station for the Blind and Visually Impaired – WRBH’s mission is to turn the printed word into the spoken word so that the blind and print impaired can receive the same ease of access to current information as their sighted peers.

The work we do at Chi-Matic isn’t just important in healthcare. We are invested in making a positive impact to the people and communities around us. We look forward to the great things we will accomplish in the new year.
